The Belardo two year old is an absolute bull. He is already 16.1 hands. We’ve had great success with the breed, most recently with Carbanados who won his first start by 5 lengths and was subsequently sold to David Hayes for a significant return on investment. This horse was initially supposed to race in Singapore for his owner, but with the recent announcement Singapore is winding down its racing operations, this horse was added to the sale late. Which means he wasn’t too wound up for the breeze up and will need less time in the paddock. Allan has also had really good success with the breed, he has recently sold three of them to overseas interests (including Carbonados).
He is a genuine sprinter/miler type of horse, and it's certainly not out of the question for him to compete in those early spring 3-year-old races. I think he is great chance to compete this Autumn.
His sire, Belardo, is having a remarkable season in New Zealand, consistently siring numerous winners. As of December 23rd, he ranks in the top 5 in the country for winners. Considering that many of his high-quality horses have been sold overseas, he is doing an exceptional job. He is certainly a sire I highly regard.
I anticipated that he might fly under the radar as one of the last horses to enter the ring at the New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run sale. I was thrilled to acquire him at a value price of $40,000 plus GST. Currently, he is enjoying a month in the paddock at Carlaw Park and will be entrusted to Allan Sharrock's care in New Plymouth come January.
It's worth noting the advantage of purchasing a Ready to Run sale 2-year-old. They do not require the early education and onboarding that a yearling would, leading to reduced initial costs and a quicker path to the racetrack
ALLAN SHARROCK QUOTE:
“I inspected this horse post purchase at the Ready to Run sale. He is a physical specimen and reminds me of Volksraad who is in his 2nd dam of his page. His presence really impressed me. I’ve had really good success with the breed. I’ve traded three of them. Two of them had a combined total for 7 figures in resale value. He will be a good horse to have for 18 months. He in my opinion is a fantastic opportunity at that price.”
