Striking son of Derryn. However, this strapping colt looks like his dam's (mother's) sire, Savabeel, which was the first thing we noticed. Notably, Derryn, being a Danehill-lined stallion, represents the famous Danehill/Zabeel crossbreeding, which is arguably one of the most successful crosses in Australasia. Savabeel himself is set to follow in his father Zabeel's footsteps and become a fantastic broodmare sire. He is currently 3rd in the NZ Broodmare Sires Premiership and is the only stallion alive in the top 5!

The dam won 3 races from 1400-1600m, indicating this colt will have plenty of early speed. The sire, Derryn, was a handy sprinter, winning the Gr2 Arrowfield 3yo Sprint at The Championships. Most importantly, our trainer, Allan Sharrock, who has trained the best progeny of Derryn, including stakes winner Sophmaze, was very impressed with this yearling. The first words he said were that this colt looked like Savabeel. On our behalf, Allan was more than happy to raise his hand and purchase this colt for a very modest sum of $25,000 + GST. You would not find a Savabeel yearling for that price!

This colt is precocious and an early runner. I anticipate he could potentially have multiple starts as a two-year-old, much like other progeny of Derryn.

This colt sold out very quickly! People know value when they see it. Thank you to everyone who showed interest. We will be buying additional horses at the New Zealand Ready to Run Sale and New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling Sales. Feel free to call me for more information.
