Pedigree
People might be quick to overlook Embellish, but there’s no reason to dismiss him. He retired the same year as Ace High and Ardrossan, who have generated more hype and command higher service fees. However, Embellish has produced more black-type horses than both of them. His oldest progeny are now four years old, and I believe he’s on the cusp of making a big domestic impact.
This two-year-old is influenced heavy after his broodmare sire, Fastnet Rock, one of the world’s leading broodmare sires. Fastnet Rock is currently leading the Australian Broodmare Sire Premiership with nearly $15 million in prizemoney just three months into the season. As of November 22, 2024, his progeny boast nearly double the stakes winners (10) compared to the runner-up, More Than Ready. This lad will be trained by the industry-leaders Te Akau Racing, winners of 11+ New Zealand Trainers Premierships. Te Akau trained his sire, Embellish, to win the 2000 Guineas and have had remarkable success with Embellish progeny like Talisker and What You Wish For, purchased at modest prices during Embellish’s first-season hype.
Te Akau also has extensive experience with Fastnet Rock progeny, including training Avantage to nine Group 1 victories. Their expertise, combined with their world-class facilities, ensures he will have every opportunity to succeed.
Plan and Future Goals
He will have a 3-month paddock break to unwind from his Ready to Run preparation, resting at a premier farm in Cambridge. Following this, he will head to Te Akau’s Matamata stables for an autumn two-year-old preparation.
While he’ll be prepared for early races, his three-year-old season is where he’ll shine. Key targets include:
